"It was a day as perfect as the flame of a candle. Douglas walked through it thinking it would on this way forever. The perfection, the roundness, the grass smell traveled on out ahead as far and fast as the speed of light...all of it was complete, everything could be touched, things stayed near, things were at hand and would remain."

"There were some days compounded completely of odor, nothing but the world blowing in one nostril and out the other. And some days, he went on, were days of hearing every trump and trill of the universe. Some days were good for tasting and some for touching. And some were good for all the senses at once."

-Ray Bradbury, Dandelion Wine

As I was looking through photos from last summer, I was thinking about Dandelion Wine, the epitomized summer, and also the ease of everything and everyone that naturally comes with summer. I do love Winter, but in the summer things loosen up and the world comes alive to welcome those perfect golden days. And while the winter blues might be getting us all down in the dumps, this song will give you hope for the magic days to come.

THE HAPPIEST PEOPLE DON'T HAVE THE BEST OF EVERYTHING. THEY JUST MAKE THE BEST OF EVERYTHING.

"The happiest moments are when we forget our precious selves, but have everything else (God, fellow humans, animals, garden, and sky) instead."
-C.S. Lewis

Recently I've been listening to Tame Impala continually, sketching with charcoal nightly, reading Never Let Me Go, and totally digging the weekends when I get to spend time with those I love. There's also a hope inside of me in anticipation of warm weather. With me, I love Winter because it gives me a good chance to re-cooperate and notice what I really love in life. But also, while Winter is wonderful for being with friends at coffee shops, watching movies, listening to music etc. etc. etc. summertime is made for time with friends. You could be outside all night long looking at the stars together if you wanted to.

But for now, I do what I can to make this Winter exceptionally fine. I hope yours has been wonderful thus far.

P.S.- Scott Schuman photographs the best portraits that you'll ever see.

Listen to James Blake new track RETROGRADE from his new album Overgrown, out 4/08.

Beautiful, wonderful James Blake is back and that's all I needed this week. This song fills me with a wonderful anticipation of what glorious music is to be had from the rest of the album.

So I've been reading On the Road. I started it way back during the eternal hot summer that should have never ended but never finished the book. Picking it back up again, I find I love it in a different way then before. Now it drives me in an undiscovered course to go and do what it is I love. Now when I save money, I save it for traveling.

Also, I hope you've been enjoying the snow. It really is quite beautiful.

"Do what you can, where you are, with what you have."
-Theodore Roosevelt

Make it happen. And be quick about it. Grab whatever inspiration you can't stop thinking about and create something from it. Fast. Take a walk, talk to someone, listen to a song that makes it hard to put into words why you love it, and most of all never take for granted when you feel content about everything and try to hold onto that feeling. And when that feeling's not there, know that whatever's troubling you will pass.

Do what you love to do and be passionate about it.

"Take a simple idea and take it seriously."
-Charles Munger

When it's sunny and snowy outside I get all excited deep inside. It gives me a burst of energy. I think it's the cold air and the blinding sun reflecting off the snow all mixed together that makes me feel this way. I hope you're enjoying this winter weather too.

Today I'm sharing with you VOL. ONE of what I'm listening to. But I might be lying a bit because mostly I've been listening to Bob Dylan 24/7 because it's basically impossible not to. Otherwise though, the other songs and artists I'm sharing have also been terrific lately and I'm sure you'll agree. Enjoy the weekend!

01. Kurt Vile - Baby's Arms
02. Phoenix - Love Like A Sunset, Pt. 2
03. Destroyer - Suicide Demo for Kara Walker
