Summer skies are so dazzling to the eyes. I can't remember what the earth felt or looked like before the golden haze of summer. One of my favorite things about summer is the way it feels like an entire era in itself, like some continual holiday in some beautiful place that seems a bit too good to be real. But summer is real and I love every moment of it.

This summer I've been digging movies more than ever before. If there is one thing I can grab onto in a film, take it for what its worth, appreciate it, connect with it, then it's a movie worth watching in my opinion. I was thinking about the scenes in movies that really stick with me. I found that ususally the scenes that stick are because of the songs that play. They could be songs you're already pretty familiar with but hearing them in a film makes this solid connection in your brain forever between the scene and the song. I've listed the film/song combinations that have really cemented themselves in my mind.
1. Romeo & Juliet directed by Baz Luhrmann
Lovefool by The Cardigans
2. The Royal Tenenbaums directed by Wes Anderson
Me and Julio by Paul Simon
3. Forrest Gump directed by Robert Zemeckis
Stop Children What's That Sound by Buffalo Springfield
4. Ferris Bueller's Day Off directed by John Hughes
Twist and Shout by The Beatles
5. The Sandlot directed by David M. Evans
America the Beautiful by Ray Charles
6. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 directed by David Yates
O Children by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
7. Lost In Translation directed by Sofia Coppola
Just Like Honey by The Jesus and Mary Chain

Listening to these songs strikes such a strong cord in my heart. If you've seen these films, I'm sure you understand the feeling and if not I'm sure there are songs that you connect to certain scenes of your favorite films. Also, O Children in Deathly Hallows is untouchable. Cheers!

This week my parents were traveling so my sister and I were riding solo all week long. And it was glorious. Don't get me wrong, my parents are way cool but having the house to ourselves was pretty killer. During the day I would be home alone, drinking coffee, listening to music, drawing, then my sister would get back from work and we'd run around with friends, eat good food, watch movies, and take long walks. Independence is sweet. Summer is here and life is good.

Pride and Prejudice. I could watch this movie every single night in the summer. You know those June days when the leisurely mornings turn into the magical golden evenings which fade into the bluish nights where the fireflies burn beautifully and you can't hardly remember what you did all day or who you talked to but you just know it was all really terrific? That's how this film makes me feel. What this film really does is remind me to luxuriate in the beauty of life.

A few more photos from our trip to Florida last month. I miss all of us rendezvousing at the beach just as the sun was setting, later going out for ice cream, then returning to the beach as the moon rose higher and the stars burned brighter. Everything was wildly terrific.

"What is one to say about June, the time of perfect young summer, the fulfillment of the promise of the earlier months, and with as yet no sign to remind one that its fresh young beauty will ever fade."
-Gertrude Jekyll

June is the finest of all the summer months. I've been really busy lately, but a good kind of busy. Busy with friends, busy with work, busy with art and reading and writing like a mad woman, busy with just genuinely enjoying time at home and living like any seventeen year old, but all of this is the best kind of busy. At the same time though I feel as if I've got all the time in the world which is actually the whole magic of summer.
Hope every last day of yours is some kind of wonderful.

These photos sum up that magic feeling that surrounds June - the start of summer. June's got this really golden feel to it.When you hold a dandelion in your hand and blow the dried petals into the wind - watching them fly up, down, up, down, towards the sun, towards the infinite sky as they fly into a new adventure - that's what June feels like to me. Magical and golden.
All I've been listening to lately is Wes Anderson soundtracks. They are just so darn killer and soul warming especially for this time of year when all you want is good jams full of cool and groovy vibes. If you're a Wes Anderson fan I would highly recommend doing this.

Cheers to June! xoxo
