"Some call this night hot, humid, and unbearable. But I call it enticing, sultry, slumberous. It speaks of rain forest jungles where even at night without the sun a golden dusty mists emits from the rich forest. It speaks of far islands where coconuts and papayas grow like wildflowers and you come in from the ocean salted, tanned like an Indian, soaked, dripping with the pulp of life. But it also speaks of nights in the suburbs, or downtown, beneath the halo glow of the streetlights, the earth overgrown from summer and everyone and everything catching my eye."
-LET SUMMER LIVE IN YOUR VEINS FOREVER, Rachel Bushong / August 2014

Most of these photos were taken my last week of summer the night my friends and I went to see Boyhood which inexplicably stirred my soul.

When I saw them walk on stage with the signature strides I'd memorized, a billion fireworks exploded inside of me as my knees got shaky. Thousands of girls were shrieking, jumping, dancing, some crying and funnily enough, I was right there with them. I danced and screamed till it hurt all over but hurt so damn good. One minute it was a mad wild rush party when they played Happily and confetti and fireworks rained and united us and them, the next minute everyone was sappy and sentimental and beautiful for Little Things. They were there laughing and dancing and messing around and we were right there with them. 1D live was a colossal kind of magic and it left me utterly tireless.

Perhaps we don't like what we see: our hips, our loss of hair, our shoe size, our dimples, our knuckles too big, our eating habits, our disposition. We have disclosed these things in secret, likes and dislikes, behind doors with locks, our lonely rooms, our messy desks, our empty hearts, our sudden bursts of energy, our sudden bouts of depression. Don’t worry. Put away your mirrors and your beauty magazines and your books on tape. There is someone right here who knows you more than you do, who is making room on the couch, who is fixing a meal, who is putting on your favorite record, who is listening intently to what you have to say, who is standing there with you, face to face, hand to hand, eye to eye, mouth to mouth. There is no space left uncovered. This is where you belong.

Post Lollapalooza weekend: when everything feels a bit dull and you don't know what to do with yourself. FESTIVALS OR DIE.
But also, my woods is tonic.

"Let the wind, the sunlight fading your clothes, the incessant cicadas, and even more incessant birds, wash over every ounce of your being until you know nothing else."
-written August 2014

I am so grateful for the people and places that cause me to see things in a different light.

"The green jungle of summer changes everyday: more dusty flowers, moss in the woods like velvet, grass like cool water, the moving ever changing tree shadows tattooing the earth and body, the overgrown forest's edge burning gold in the patches of evening sun, bending slowly in the rain cooled still warm wind. And I too growing, baking, sprouting with the earth: dirt covered feet and hands, hair melting gold from the sun, growing long and tangled, and limbs tanned from the incessant vitality to be outside among the summer earth."
